Im Jahr 2007 schlug das Debut “Selling Insincerity” der amerikanischen Art-Rock/New-Prog-Formation Abigail’s Ghost im Underground ein wie eine Bombe. Der an Porcupine Tree-angelehnte Stil dieser jungen Band, ihre hohe Musikalität und letztlich die Qualität der Kompositionen sorgten allerorts für Aufregung. Hier wächst etwas Bedeutendes heran - davon war man schon damals überzeugt.
Und nun legen Joshua Theriot und seine Mitstreiter selbstbewusst ihr neues Album vor und können die hohe Erwartungshaltung sogar noch toppen. Mit dem Titelsong “d_letion” startet das Album ungemein kraftvoll und trotzdem extrem eingängig. Der düster treibende Song hat das Zeug zur Hymne, wird zwischenzeitlich durch instrumentale Breaks leicht gebremst, um dann, mit genialen Vokalarrangements das Thema wiederholend, die Füße des Zuhörers hektisch mitwippen zu lassen. Und so geht es dann munter weiter. Die fünf Musiker, allesamt Absolventen des Berklee College of Music in Boston, machen auf den folgenden Songs alles richtig, finden immer wieder das richtige Maß zwischen eingängig groovenden Melodien, sphärischen Passagen, instrumentaler Präzisionsarbeit und sorgen mit kraftvoll eruptiven Parts für die notwendige Abwechslung.
Mit d_letion haben sich Abigail’s Ghost nun als eine der interessantesten Bands in der anspruchsvollen Rock-Musik etabliert.

Daedalus is a prog metal band from Genoa, Italy. The first core gathered in 2000 following an idea by Fabio Gremo, who proposed to Andrea Rinaldi and Giuseppe Spanò to set up the band.They started working on their songs drawing inspiration from different musical genres and bands as Queen, Arena, Dream Theater, Iron Maiden and Rush, all the same trying to define a peculiar style and sound. In 2002 they welcomed singer Alessio Brunetti and drummer Davide La Rosa. The following year they recorded and published their first album "Leading far from a mistake".In 2004 Andrea and Alessio left the band and their place was taken respectively by Andrea Torretta and Davide Merletto. Then with renewed strength they began composing more mature and polished songs, with greater accuracy and attention to details. The band contacted professional classical musicians and the well-known vocalists Roberto Tiranti (Labyrinth) and Alessandro Corvaglia (La Maschera di Cera) to record some sections. In 2007 Daedalus went in contact with Roland Grapow, former guitarist in Helloween and founder of Masterplan, who mixed the tracks and gave the band a well defined sound and a great deal of precious suggestions to improve.

Metamorphosis is a project born in January 2001. Jean-Pierre Schenk, its composer, was born in 1953. He started playing the drums at the age of 19 as he was a student. Being an autodidact, he made his first concert 1 year later with a few jazz and rock musicians. His musical career really started as he founded the group Nature in 1971 with Giovanni Esposito, the guitar player on Metamorphosis. Very soon, the band became famous in the Suisse romande. Its music was deeply inspired at its beginnings by Pink Floyd, then evolved towards Genesis. As the singer left the group 2 years later, Jean-Pierre Schenk started singing and playing the drums as did Phil Collins at the time. The group made a series of memorable gigs, but unfortunately never found the manager who could have given it more than false promises. In 1978 after new changes among the musicians the group definitively split. Jean-Pierre Schenk worked till 1995 with many musicians, producing and playing Italian and French varieties, and played “covers” with a band called Monday Blues Band till 1998. The idea of Metamorphosis came to him as he bought a house in autumn 2000 in which he could have his own home-studio. The style of the music was obvious to him: progressive rock, as “this is the only music which can take my heart, my soul and my guts.”
Dark, powerful, meditative, psychedelic, obsessing, with beautiful melodies, guitar and Moog solos, this is Metamorphosis’ new album. If the other ones were inspired by Pink Floyd, the music of “Dark” is totally personal and original. It is Prog at its best!

Here's another gem from the amazing Mellotron-loaden Skandinavian progrock scene, this time a Swedish band including Mattias Jarlhed (percussion), Jonas Hallberg (guitar and backing vocals), Daniel Fäldt (lead - and backing vocals, sitar) and Stefan Renström (bass, keyboards, voices). Releases: album "Ceinwed" from '95 and "Paradise Square" from '02. Main influence: mid-GENESIS.
The second album is superior to their debut, in my opinion "Paradise Square" is one of the best releases from 2002! Most of the 7 songs are long, alternating and elaborate pieces with lots of surprising ideas: classical guitar and piano, a jazzy intermezzo, sensitive Spanish guitar or sitar and tablas. The 24-carat symphonic sound is very inspired by mid-GENESIS but has also echoes from ANGLAGARD (sumptuous Mellotron waves), SPOCK'S BEARD (shifting moods and fiery electric guitar), MARILLION (keyboards) and MANFRED MANN'S EARTH BAND (Minimoog flights with pitchbend). The vocals are at some momens a bit theatrical but in general strong and convincing. Funny self-mockery: SIMON SAYS has integrated some musical moments from GENESIS albums ("The Lamb..." and "Foxtrot") but the way they have done this, showcases the mature compositional skills. Recommended.
